Biographical

Dr. James Allen is a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He also serves as Vice Chairman for the Department of Internal Medicine and is the Chief of Internal Medicine at University Hospital East. Dr. Allen attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine and graduated in 1984. He completed a residency in internal medicine, chief residency, and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at The Ohio State University. He has been a faculty member in the department since 1991. Dr. Allen's clinical interest is in interstitial lung disease and he leads the Interstitial Lung Disease clinic at Ohio State. He is actively involved in experimental therapeutics in interstitial lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He holds the endowed Battelle Professorship in Inhalational Therapeutics. Dr. Allen is involved in medical student education and is the director of the pulmonary module for the second year medical students. He is also the moderator and editor of the weekly medical education webcast, MedNet-21, which provides continuing medical education to 18,000 physicians in 136 countries.
