Too many Americans — and an especially large number of Ohioans — suffer with a cluster of diseases, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, which are collectively called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD. COPD is the third-leading cause of death in the country. About 15 million Americans have been told they have the disease, including about 7 percent of Ohioans, according to data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
