Current OSU Appointments

Associate Professor-Clinical, Hospital Medicine

Physician, FGP-Hospital Medicine

I have always been interested in medicine for its breadth and depth. As an undergraduate student, I appreciated basic science for the interesting puzzles posed and the ability to apply this towards patient care. I entered a combined MD/PhD program with this in mind and my research focused on cancer chemoprevention. Although I enjoyed the rigor of the basic sciences, I learned in residency that my true joys in medicine were the human interaction and the breadth of general medicine and pediatrics. After completing a combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency, I was hired by Ohio State 10/01/2006. My scholarly focus then transitioned to education in this field that I love. Although I no longer do cancer research, I apply the hypothesis generation and thought process I learned in graduate school towards my work in hospital medicine and medical education.

Academic Advising

Through most of my educational roles, I provide mentorship and career counseling to many different medical students. As a learning communities advisor, I work with students in a small group setting to provide paracurricular support. As a portfolio coach in the new curriculum, I provide structured coaching to medical students helping to guide reflection and practice-based learning and improvement throughout their medical school career.

Published Works

For my presentation "Teaching Handoff Skills, Achieving Competence and Maximizing Faculty Resources", I presented my work on implementing and studying a curriculum to teach handoff skills. I was invited to do so to present findings from my CGEA grant on handoffs. This involved submitting an abstract but with assured acceptance. I included other authors on the abstract to present different aspects of work in this area at OSU.
