About the Division

The hospitalist program at OSU started in July 2003 in response to patient care needs created by new work hours restrictions for house staff. In FY16 (July 2015 - June 2016) the Division of Hospital Medicine cared for 17% of all hospital admissions.

In order to meet the growing patient care needs of the Department and the Wexner Medical Center, the Division of Hospital Medicine increased eight-fold to nearly 80 faculty beginning in July 2016.  Among our expanding patient care initiatives we are experiencing growth in our medical consultative service, and development of new medical co-management models. We also began our inaugural year for a Clinician Educator Fellowship program.

We have advanced our core curriculum in hospital medicine for our residents and medical students which incorporatse patient safety/continuous quality improvement with evidence-based medicine as well as plans to expand a clinical outcomes research program.
