Adult Down Syndrome Clinic

The Medical Genetics Program in the Division of Human Genetics recently initiated an Adult Down Syndrome Clinic. The goal of this clinic is to address the health and social needs of adults with Down syndrome. Patients undergo a comprehensive consultation, with a medical geneticist and certified genetic counselor, focusing on medical problems specific to adults with Down syndrome, such as thyroid function, ear, nose and throat issues, weight and activity and cardiac and routine health care. In addition, a mini-mental examination is performed for baseline assessment to monitor potential development of Alzheimer’s disease.

The clinic also serves as a resource for health care providers who need medical information about Down Syndrome or assistance in managing their patients with Down Syndrome.
