Advanced Endoscopy

The Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Section at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is dedicated to providing superior endoscopic services to all our patients.  We strive to be both excellent clinicians and thought leaders in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy.  As central Ohio’s only academic medical center, we are in a unique position to provide high quality, state of the art care to the citizens of Ohio and the surrounding states.  Our endoscopy facilities are second to none, with two dedicated Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatograpy (ERCP) fluoroscopy suites and two dedicated Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) rooms.  In addition, all our advanced procedures are done with an Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist to assist in providing safe and effective sedation.

Our EUS services include:  diagnosis of solid and cystic lesions of the GI tract and pancreas, cystgastrostomies of pancreatic pseudocyst, evaluation for chronic pancreatitis (including pancreatic function testing), celiac plexus nerve block and optimizing the delivery of radiation therapy via endoscopic fiducial placement.

Our ERCP services include:  management of large or multiple biliary stones, management of benign and malignant biliary strictures, management of post-operative complications, such as bile leaks or strictures, ductoscopy of the biliary and pancreatic ducts, removal of ampullary adenomas via ampullectomy, minor duct therapy for pancreas divisum, chronic pancreatitis therapy, post-bariatric surgery balloon assisted ERCP, post-Whipple ERCP and sphincter of Oddi manomtery.

We often combine our EUS and ERCP services in one visit in and effort to improve patient access and convenience.  This allows patients to get both procedures done on the same day, while only having to undergo sedation once.  We are also skilled in using EUS to access the biliary tree or pancreatic duct in order to assist in difficult biliary or pancreatic access.  This EUS guided biliary rendezvous procedure can allow us to provide seamless service to patients that would otherwise require a separate radiological procedure or surgery.   We also use these modalities to perform endoscopic cyst gastrostomies and endoscopic pancreatic necrosectomy.

While the majority of our therapeutic work centers on EUS and ERCP, we also provide comprehensive list of additional advanced endoscopic services.  These include:  endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) of neoplastic lesions, deep enteroscopy, enteral stenting, radiofrequency ablation of Barrett’s Esophagus and confocal laser endomicroscopy.

It is our most sincere wish you will choose the Advanced Therapeutic Endoscopy Physicians at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, so we may provide you with the top quality care you deserve.
