Assistant Professor-Clinical, Cardiovascular Medicine
Physician, FGP-Cardiovascular Medicine
I was recruited to stay at Ohio State in 2008 primarily for my clinical skills and have been appointed to 90-100% clinical activities for most of that time. My clinical activities initially focused on the inpatient consult service, echocardiogram lab and outpatient clinic. My work and leadership in these areas were recognized by appointment to directorships for all of these activities (Director of the inpatient consult service, Director of Quality for the outpatient echocardiogram labs and Medical Director of the Stoneridge Specialties Clinic). My success in these administrative posts led to medical center level committee memberships as well as election by my peers to several departmental administrative committees (Internal Medicine Financial Committee and Board of Managers) and then Medical Director of IT for the Ross Heart Hospital in 2013.
I have never forgotten, however, that my first passion is in the direct care of patients. While serving in my administrative posts and academic activities, I have maintained my commitment to quality patient care. I have been in the top 95th percentile nationally for patient satisfaction in all of my years at Ohio State. I have also been recognized by my peers and referring physicians by being elected to the Best Doctors in America every year since 2010.
Because of this clinical expertise in cardiology as well as echocardiography, I have been asked to lecture to the medical students on valvular heart disease and cardiac imaging. I have also been asked to lecture on various clinical topics at a regional, national and international level. This has led to invited chapters on echocardiography and several peer reviewed journal articles. I have also collaborated with physicians on other research projects by lending my expertise in echocardiogram interpretation for those studies.
Last year, I accepted a position in Marysville as it has always been a desire of mine to practice in a community and make a more direct impact on patient care and the health of a community. By doing this, I have significantly increased our clinical volume and patient satisfaction scores at this site. I have also expanded our referral area beyond the norm for our outreach practices in this region (see Appendices B and C). By expanding our referral base in this region, we can bring world class care to this community, improve educational opportunities for our trainees and increase enrollment and access to clinical trials for this population.
