SM Fellowship Application Process

The Application Process

The Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program.  Candidates must apply to the program using the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). ERAS, a service developed by the AAMC, transmits application materials via the Internet to programs in residency and selected fellowship specialties. Specialty Matches conducted by the NRMP do not provide centralized services for the application process. Do not send any program applications to the NRMP.

Programs review candidates' credentials and, if interested, invite them for interviews. Applicants also are responsible for ensuring that they meet all program prerequisites and institutional policies regarding eligibility for appointment to a fellowship position prior to ranking a program through the NRMP.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be an MD or DO
  • Be eligible for an Ohio training certificate or permanent medical license
  • Have three letters of reccomendation
  • Have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited residency in Neurology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Otolaryngology or Family Medicine by the time of entry into the program
  • Hold US citizenship, permanent residency, or J-1 Visa ECFMG (Exchange Visitor Sponsorship Program)


The timeline for the match to fill the 2014/2015 acdemic year is as follows:

  • July 1, 2013:  Applicants start applying to programs
  • July 15, 2013:  Programs download applications
  • July 31st, 2013: MATCH opens
  • October 2nd, 2013: Rank order list entry begins
  • November 13th, 2013: Rank order list certification deadline
  • December 4th, 2013: MATCH Day, results are available 12:00PM eastern time
  • July 1, 2014: Fellows report for training
