Basic Bronchoscopy Course July 19, 2013

 

The 4th Basic Bronchoscopy Course was held at OSU on July 19, 2013. There were 37 incoming first year fellows from University of Cincinnati, Indiana University, Southern Illinois University, Marshall University, Case Western University, MetroHealth Medical Center, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Allegheny General Hospital and Ohio State University. The course covered didactic lectures followed by hands on sessions on basic bronchoscopy techniques, difficult airway management, chest tube placement, thoracic ultrasound imaging and scope cleaning. The participants practiced on the bronchoscopy simulator, pig lungs and airway models.

Special thanks to visiting faculty; Dr. Francis Sheski and Dr. Gabe Bosslet from Indiana University, Dr. Kevin Kovitz from University of Illinois in Chicago and Dr. Ziad Shaman from Metro Health Medical Center. The OSU faculty included Drs Nitin Bhatt, Steve Kirkby, Sindhu Mukku, Tyler Anderson, Dan Gorbett, Matthew Exline, Becky Cloyes, CNP and Mr. Alan Strickland. Dr. Shaheen Islam directed the course.

There were 26 incoming first year fellows from University of Cincinnati, Indiana University, Southern Illinois University, Marshall University, University of Toledo, MetroHealth Medical Center and Ohio State University. The course covered didactic lectures followed by hands on sessions on basic bronchoscopy techniques, difficult airway management, chest tube placement and thoracic & cardiac ultrasound imaging. Visiting faculty included Dr Francis Sheski from Indiana University, Dr Thomas Gildea and Dr Mike Machuzak from Cleveland Clinic, Dr Sadia Benzaquen from the University of Cincinnati and Dr Ziad Shaman from Metro Health Medical Center. The OSU faculty included Dr Nitin Bhatt, Dr Karen Wood, Dr Matthew Exline, Dr Roy Essig, Dr Umair Gauhar and Mr Alan Strickland. Dr Shaheen Islam was the Course Director.
