The primary objectives are that the trainee develop a working knowledge of the following • Approach to the patient with the solitary pulmonary nodule • Lung cancer screening1-4 • Non-malignant causes of pulmonary nodules • Approach to the patient with the non-resolving infiltrate • Approach to the patient with hemoptysis • Current staging of both non-small cell and small cell lung cancer • Indications for use of PET in the initial evaluation • Use of bronchoscopic techniques including flexible bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound and superdimension navigational bronchoscopy for both diagnosis and staging of suspected lung cancer • Management of endobronchial lesions • Basic path recognition • Preoperative evaluation for patients undergoing definitive surgical resection of lung tumors • Postoperative management of patients undergoing surgical resection • Management of pulmonary complications of lung cancer therapies (radiation, chemotherapy, EGFR inhibitors) • Management of malignant pleural effusions (pleurodesis, pleurx catheter) • Approach to mediastinal masses • Management of lung cancer in the elderly • Approach to initial chemotherapeutic management of lung cancer including new agents • Diagnosis and management of paraneoplastic syndromes • Approach to smoking cessation counseling
