Dr. Norris Turner joined the faculty in 2009 as an Infectious Disease Epidemiologist with a focus on women’s reproductive health, specifically prevention of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections.

Special Interests

Dr. Norris Turner’s research focuses on women’s reproductive health in a global context. Her work over the past 10 years in Madagascar, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Thailand, South Africa, Mexico and other regions includes numerous HIV and STI prevention projects, including the role of male circumcision in preventing women’s acquisition of disease, the interaction between changes in vaginal flora and changes in HIV viral load in African women with primary HIV infection, and the effect of women-controlled prevention methods such as microbicides and diaphragms. Dr. Norris Turner also has a secondary interest in new statistical, laboratory and logistical techniques to better measure reproductive health exposures and outcomes.
