Prior to the Clinic Visit -
Your appointment should be scheduled 6-8 weeks prior to your departure. This is to allow ample time to insure the effectiveness of immunizations and medications that may be required for your travel
Complete the Travel Clinic Questionnaire and submit it electronically, by fax or by mail prior to your visit. The value of the travel medicine consultation is greatly enhanced when the Travel Clinic Questionnaire can be reviewed by clinic staff before the visit. During the Clinic Visit –
Your specific itinerary and planned activities will be reviewed, so bring your itinerary with you to the appointment.
You will be counseled regarding general and destination-specific travel health and safety including issues such as water and food safety, altitude sickness, insect repellant, sunscreen, traveler’s diarrhea, sexually transmitted diseases, travel insurance, and the availability of post travel consultation, if needed.
You will receive a copy of the current WHO and CDC recommendations regarding vaccinations and medications relevant to your itinerary.
Prescriptions for necessary travel related medications will be provided. These prescriptions may include, but are not limited to, anti-malarial, anti-diarrheal medications, and altitude sickness medications.
An OSU Travel Clinic folder containing all of your travel health information and contact information will be given to you at the end of the clinic visit.
The OSU Infectious Diseases Travel Clinic is staffed by Driane Orlov, CNP with physician consultation available, if needed.
Following your visit, we will formally communicate with your primary care physician regarding your travel consultation and list all vaccinations medications and services provided.
Post Travel Appointments –
If you return from your trip and any travel related problems arise, you can be scheduled for a nurse practitioner or physician evaluation as is appropriate to your problem.

Payment-
All pre-travel charges are on a fee for service basis, as insurance companies, Medicare and Medicaid, typically do not cover charges associated with pre-travel consultations. You should consult your carrier for questions of coverage. If you have Medicare please see the attached Advance Beneficiary Notice on Noncoverage (ABN) We accept checks, cash, MasterCard and Visa, for payment at the time of service.

OSU Prime Care Payment
OSU Prime Care can be billed directly. Clients will be responsible for the appropriate co-pay at the time of service.

Global Care Referral Services
If you are enrolled in OSU Prime Care or any other OSU health plan, you and your dependents are automatically covered by OSU’s Global Care program. Global Care provides 24-hour health care referrals when you travel outside of Ohio. The referrals include medical care providers in more than 190 countries, language interpretation services, pre-trip consultations, and more.
You are also eligible for Global Care when traveling on university sponsored business even if you are not enrolled in an OSU medical plan
