The hospitalist program at OSU started in July 2003 in response to patient care needs created by new work hours restrictions for house staff.  By FY05 (July 2004-June 2005) the nascent Division of Hospital Medicine cared for 17% of all Department of Internal Medicine admissions. 

In order to meet the growing patient care needs of the Department and the Wexner Medical Center, the Division of Hospital Medicine increased by 50% in 2012 to 41+ faculty.  Among our expanding patient care initiatives we are experiencing growth in our medical consultative service, and development of new medical co-management models. 

We have ambitious plans for developing a core curriculum in hospital medicine for our residents and medical students which will incorporate patient safety/continuous quality improvement with evidence-based medicine as well as plans to expand a clinical outcomes research program.
