Clinical

Excellent clinical facilities for inpatient and outpatient treatment are located within The Ohio State University Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solve Research Institute (The James), an NCCN designated free standing comprehensive cancer center, where patients with the primary diagnosis of cancer are seen and treated. The James houses 180 inpatient beds and services 40 cancer specific clinics. 24 Laminar flow rooms are available for the isolation of patients who become myelosuppressed and immunosuppressed following intensive chemotherapy with or without bone marrow transplantation. In addition, the James provides patient service areas for laboratory, pathology, radiology, chemotherapy, radiation oncology and other procedures needed for the support and treatment of cancer patients.

 

 

Fellows will also rotate through the Hospice and Palliative Care Program at Riverside Methodist Hospital, the Hematopathology/Coagulation laboratories in University Hospital. In addition, they have an option of rotating through the Gynecology Oncology clinics and operating rooms, the radiation oncology clinics and treatment facilities, and the neuro oncology clinics with are housed at both the James Cancer Hospital and University Hospital facilities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Research

The Ohio State University hosts the NCI-designated Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC). This center within the university administers major programs in basic and clinical cancer research. Faculty from 13 of the 18 colleges across Ohio State University, Columbus Children’s Hospital, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital are members of the OSUCCC, and lead 6 multidisciplinary programs/cores. The OSUCCC supports all of the cancer specific and genetics labs on campus, and provides a wide variety of support services such as analytic cytometry, behavioral measurement, biomedical informatics, biostatics, cell manipulations laboratory, clinical trials office, comparative pathology and mouse phenotyping, nucleic acid, pharmacoanalytical, proteomics, small animal imaging, tissue procurement, transgenic animal facilities, leukemia tissue bank, microarray, moleculara cytogenetics, translational tirals development and support lab, viral vector, and ancillary support services.
