Medical Genetics and Genomics Program


The Medical Genetics and Genomics Program provides risk assessment, genetic counseling, and genetic testing, when appropriate, for many different conditions that can run in families.

Common Reasons for Referral to the Medical Genetics and Genomics Program

There are many reasons to be referred to the Medical Genetics and Genomics Program. Some specific examples are listed below:

  • Hereditary Bleeding Disorders (for example, Hemophilia)
     
  • Hereditary Blood Clotting Disorders (for example, Factor V Leiden)
     
  • Hereditary diseases of the skin, kidney, lung and eye
     
  • Hemochromatosis
     
  • Adults with Down Syndrome
     
  • Other known genetic conditions, such as Neurofibromatosis
