Mr. Sweet acts as the primary genetic counselor for our Division on a new partnership with the Coriell Medical Institute, known as the OSUMC-Coriell Personalized Medicine Collaborative. This longitudinal, randomized controlled trial will accrue 1800 OSUMC patients with either hypertension or congestive heart failure, and investigate the impact of genomic counseling using GWA, family history and environmental risk factors for common complex disease. Additional research interests include development and implementation of self-administered, computerized, familial cancer risk assessment tools with research into increasing the effectiveness of healthcare provider to patient communication. He directs the Family HealthLink website at https://familyhealthlink.osumc.edu. Mr. Sweet also coordinates an international collaborative gene hunting study for the condition of hyperplastic polyposis/serrated neoplasia. He previously coordinated a number of research protocols relative to the BRCA genes (Prospective Cohort; Genetic Modifier (CIMBA) and Variant study).
