Clinical Interests
Mr. Sweet’s clinical duties include providing comprehensive cancer genetic consultations to individuals and families with a history of cancer.  Cancer Genetic consultation requires documentation of cancers in the family, risk assessment, screening recommendations, and incorporation of genetic testing as necessary.  Over 400 individuals/families are seen each year in the Clinical Cancer Genetics clinic. Research Interests
Mr. Sweet’s research interests include: development and implementation of self-administered, computerized, familial cancer risk assessment tools with research into increasing the effectiveness of healthcare provider to patient communication.  Active website:  www.jamesline.com/go/jameslink; BRCA1 and BRCA2 related studies which include multi-center prospective questionnaire cohort study of female carriers (>5,000) to identify environmental risk factors; multicenter genetic modifiers study looking at low penetrance susceptibility genes and impact on BRCA carrier cancer risk; and elucidation of BRCA gene variants of uncertain significance to determine if pathogenic mutations or polymorphisms.  Mr. Sweet also coordinates an international gene hunting study for the condition of hyperplastic polyposis.
