Reaching Out to the Community Through seminars, support group talks, educational fairs and TV programs, our faculty and genetic counselors actively educate the medical professional community (physicians, nurses, trainees) and the general public around the state of Ohio. Examples include tumor boards presentations at area hospitals, information booths at community events (such as OSU Wellness Fair and Race for the Cure), and speaking to local high school and college students.
At most community events, one can find Jameslink® - a free-standing computer system designed to provide individualized information about cancer risk based on family history. This service, offered free of charge, leads the user through a short series of questions about cancer history in first- and second-degree relatives. A tailored letter including cancer risk management options is printed for all who use the system. Over 9,000 cancer risk assessments have been provided through Jameslink® since September, 1998. For more information on having a Human Genetics speaker at your next event, please call our office at (614) 293-6694 or toll-free 1-888-329-1654.
