Biographical

I have a distinctive record of teaching excellence as outlined in my evaluations at the student, resident, AND local/national peer level. I received the Faculty Teaching Award in Ambulatory Medicine in 2010. I have demonstrated a substantial and positive impact on the Internal Medicine Residency by securing a $3.8 million HRSA grant to start a Primary Care Track. I am the Director of that Program and am the main stakeholder in curriculum design, recruitment, evaluation, innovation, and dissemination of outcomes. I have presented at a national level on innovations within the program. I have created an annual state-wide event that celebrates scholarship and primary care – Primary Care Career Day. Primary Care Career Day traditionally hosts nearly 100 students, 20 poster abstracts, 4 speakers, and 20 career vendors to celebrate Primary Care. This is the only state-wide Primary Care event of its kind in Ohio. Prior to designing the Primary Care Track, I served as an Associate Program Director of Clinical Assessment and Problem Solving (CAPS) at the College of Medicine. I played an integral role in course design, evaluation, innovation, and dissemination of outcomes. I also collaborated with the College of Pharmacy to help design a Patient-Centered Multidisciplinary Diabetes Clinic for Internal Medicine Residents to rotate through so that they could learn a multidisciplinary approach to complex medical care. Within the Internal Medicine Residency, I serve as the mentor for over 25 residents annually. I have also contributed to MedNet 21, delivering an educational module on “Common Infections in Primary Care.” This was very well received and I was subsequently invited to give Grand Rounds in Mansfield on the same topic.

I have contributed to many scholarly projects since joining faculty at Ohio State. I have presented several workshops on resident education at the national level as well as a plenary session on innovations within the Primary Care Track at the Academic Alliance of Internal Medicine (AAIM). I have presented and designed more than 15 posters – 5 of which were presented at the state level, and 10 at the national level. I have created a forum for scholarship in the annual Primary Care Career Day as noted above. In terms of publications, I currently have > 10 articles in print and forthcoming in Editor-Reviewed or Peer-Reviewed journals. I have also contributed to MedNet 21, creating a module on “Common Infections in Primary Care.”

I serve or have served on multiple university committees as outlined in my dossier. Some of these include chairman of the CarePoint East Physicians Advisory Committee, the Health and Wellness Committee, the General Internal Medicine Division Director Search Committee, IM Residency Selection Committee, House Staff Education Committee, House Staff Evaluation Committee, Academic Standing Committee, USMLE Review Committee, Medical Student Grade Appeals Committee, Student Education Committee, and the Residency Ambulatory Practice Leadership Group. Outside of OSU I have also provided service to the betterment of the community in my role on the Near East Health Advisory Committee. I was also recently invited to serve on the Board of Directors at the Physicians Care Connection. My role in all of these committees has been pivotal in shaping the medical center from the perspective of medical student and resident education as well as optimizing the patient experience.

I have been recognized for excellence in clinical service by being noted as having the top 1% Patient Satisfaction Scores in 2012 and 2013 throughout the entire medical center. I continually rank amongst the highest of my peers in patient satisfaction within the division of general internal medicine year after year.
