Real World Experience in an Innovative Setting
Whether you're seeking a career in medical practice, research or teaching, the OSU Division of General Internal Medicine offers a dynamic learning environment for medical students and residents. A major referral center for the Midwest, The OSU Medical Center's clinics, hospitals, health centers and research institutes form a robust learning laboratory. Consider a few of the highlights:
Leading-edge learning tools
A new web-based physical examination course offers medical students an interactive learning experience on the fundamental principles of physical examination. This state-of-the-art portable technology brings the sights and sounds of the physical examination alive.
Diverse clinical experience
Medical students and residents have clinical opportunities to train in one of 10 community general internal medicine practice sites.
Front seat on research
Students and residents train alongside faculty with research programs in many areas including geriatrics, peri-operative medicine, point of service testing, medical education and health outcomes. General internal medicine faculty are collaborating with OSU pediatric and family medicine physicians under the auspices of the federally-funded OSU Primary Care Research Institute to study primary care research. A $1 million U.S. Department of Health and Human Services award in 2003 augments initial funding in 2000 aimed at developing optimal primary care practices.
