Board Certified In Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease
Dr. Mary Fontana is associate professor of Internal Medicine and director of the Independent Study Program (from 1992-2003) at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. She is author or coauthor of 15 book chapters on valvular and congenital heart disease, and pregnancy in heart disease. Dr. Fontana has numerous articles and abstracts published in peer-reviewed publications such as the American Journal of Cardiology, Circulation, and American Journal of Medicine. She is a premier instructor, teaching over three decades and has been recognized for her excellence with “Outstanding Teaching Awards” more than a dozen times. She is also recipient of the Charles F. Wooley, MD Transmission of Excellence Teaching Award and the Distinguished Educator Award, and Alumni Achievement Award, OSU College of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Fontana holds an Associate Fellowship in the American College of Cardiology and is a member of the American Heart Association. She is also active in the community, serving on a number of medical advisory boards.
Experience
Dr. Fontana has been a practicing cardiologist and a member of the faculty of OSU since 1970. Over the years she also has consulted at other institutions including Dayton Veterans Administration and Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Columbus Children’s Hospital and South-eastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, Oh.
