The Synergy to Excel
Excellence in clinical care. Commitment to innovative medical education. Leadership and collaboration in research.
These words describe an evolution and revolution taking place in the Department of Internal Medicine and its 12 Divisions at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC). The Department continues to gain increasing national recognition for its outstanding reputation in and commitment to education, patient care and research. Four divisions in the Department were recognized as among the highly rated specialties in the 2002 U.S. News & World Report hospital rankings: hematology and oncology, nephrology, endocrinology, and pulmonary and critical care medicine.
Faculty, fellows, residents and staff--continue to forge new directions in medicine, making the Department of Internal Medicine a dynamic place to practice, teach and conduct research.
Consider that:
- From the cardiovascular and infectious diseases experts to transplant surgeons and cancer specialists, Department of Internal Medicine faculty rank among the nation's best in providing patient care. Clinical facilities in the comprehensive OSUMC campus offer patients and clinicians cutting-edge technology and an extensive setting for patient care.
- Such facilities and a high caliber faculty provide an innovative and dynamic educational environment for medical students, residents and fellows, making the OSU College of Medicine and Public Health ranked among the top 37 medical schools in the country.
- Department researchers are decoding genetic mysteries, investigating treatments for HIVAIDS and exploring potential agents of bioterrorism, to name a few. Together, their entrepreneurial spirit in research has helped OSUMC increase external research funding from under $61 million in 2001 to over $100 million in 2003.
