Here is the scoop on international electives at OSU.  We have been able to get permission for residents to participate in educationally valid international electives.  Each year, on average, 1-2 residents take advantage of this option.  They do most of the leg work setting it up, and this requires advanced planning.  This past year one resident went to Guatemala for one month, and another went to Kenya for 2 months. 

The OSU students' office of Global Health is an excellent resource for advice in identifying possible sites for international electives.  The director has established relationships in many areas of the world which can help in securing these international opportunities. 

Though we do not have well established, prepackaged electives, we are open to working with you if an international elective is important for your career goals.  We need several months time to properly prepare for the elective and to secure the needed approval.
